Friends or Frenemies?

Friend One attached to another by affection or esteem. One that is not hostile. A favored companion. Frenemy One who pretends to be a friend but is actually an enemy.

I don't like to speak for others so I'll ask: Have you had any battles wondering who is who? Have you had to weed people out of your life because they're toxic? Even when you were a kiddo?

I hope for every friend we have, the answer to each of the questions below are yes, and if we're asked the same things our answers will be yes too.

Do you love me unconditionally? Conditions get in the way and make a mess. Can I tell you everything and feel comfortable that I did? It's a bad feeling to wonder if it'll be used against me later. Can I trust you like you're a guardian angel? That's the most comfortable feeling. Do you accept me as I am? I'm flawed and so are you. Are you rooting for me to get ahead and are you sitting in my corner? A true, solid support system never hurt a soul. Have you held my hand through struggles and applauded my successes? Solidity through ups and downs, even in reverse order, is still solidity. Do you enjoy seeing me happy? Smiles equal happiness and smiles are contagious, so...

Do you hate knowing I'm stressed? It would be awful if you enjoyed it. Do you hate seeing me cry?

I feel like crying is just as contagious as smiling and definitely not as fun. Do you listen when I need to talk? I talk a lot, I admit it. The bigger the ears, the better. Do you offer advice or an opinion if I ask? I don't know everything, I know very little. If I ask for it, sometimes I need to be bossed around. Do you remain quiet if I only need an ear? Those ears again...sometimes listening really is all I need.

Do you know what makes me laugh? I'm a simple girl. It doesn't take much. Do you like to make me laugh? I feel like it'd be a good time because I look funny when I laugh...my teeth. It seems like it'd be entertaining. Do you know my fears? I only have a few but they run deeply. Do you know my aspirations? They're simple. They always have been. Do you know what makes me tick? If you know me, this is easily answered. Do you know what ticks me off? The list is short and it doesn't change. Do you disagree with me sometimes but skip the judgement? Judging isn't loving. You can't do one while preaching the other.

Do you think of me fondly? I'm kind of nerdy but I hope I make a good mark. Do you ask me how I'm doing? It's appreciated any time. Do you care how I'm doing? It feels good when someone gives a shit. Do you send me random messages to make me smile or crack me up? I love laughing. It's probably my favorite thing. Chalk it up with what makes me tick. Do you always kind of know when I need to smile? If we're friends and you know me at all, this one is a piece of cake. Can I rely on you to always have my back, even if I do things differently than you? Everyone has their own routine that works for them. It's about trusting the process.
